A screaming line drive off the bat of Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony injured Reds first baseman Sal Stewart, when Stewart took the 110.8 mph screamer off the forearm of his glove hand:
Stewart remained in the game, a 3-0 Red Sox win. Maybe other Reds hitters shouod have hit by liners. Stewart had three of the Reds' four hits on the day, two of them doubles. Their poor offensive output against Garrett Crochet (six innings) and three relievers wasted a strong start by Andrew Abbott — matched Crochet's six scoreless innings — with the Reds bullpen, a weakness in 2025, yielding three runs in three innings of relief.
My take: Company for the Pirates in the NL Central cellar, making next week's three game series in Cincinnati critical to both teams' playoff chances.
