Michigan guard Elliot Cadeau announced Thursday that he will forgo the NBA Draft and the transfer portal and will play his senior season with the reigning national champs. Cadeau was named the NCAA tournament's Most Outstanding Player, posting a game-high 19 points in the final against UConn, and a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double in the semifinal against Arizona.
Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo also announced she would be returning for her senior season at Notre Dame. This season's Naismith winner as the best women's collegiate player was rumored to be entertaining the transfer portal but put the Irish at ease with an Instagram post in her Notre Dame uniform with a simple caption: "Run it back."
Hidalgo was not eligible to declare for the WNBA Draft, which requires players to turn 22 years old or older in their calendar draft year, and have graduated or played four seasons in college.
My take: It's not like Hidalgo is suffering. She might have made a few more NIL bucks elsewhere, but not substantially more. Cadeau made a wise choice. Despite his tournament performance, he was a second-round pick at best. Now he can build off his success this season and try to improve his draft prospects for 2027.
