There will be no Triple Crown winner in horse racing this year. Golden Tempo's owners and trainers announced he will not be running in the Preakness Stakes on May 16.
Trainer Cherie DeVaux said, "Golden gave us the race of a lifetime in the Kentucky Derby, and we believe the best decision for him moving forward is to give him a little more time following such a tremendous effort."
Golden Tempo will run, at present, in the final Triple Crown leg, the Belmont Stakes on June 6.
My take: All about full health and stud fees at this point. Too much money to be made to risk injury. They will review the Preakness results before sending him out for the longest race of the three. Unless they feel he can compete at the top of the field, he won't run there either.
