Venezuela ended Italy's Cinderalla run in the World Baseball Classic, defeating the previously undefeated team, 4-2, at loanDepot Park in Miami. Venezuela now plays in its first WBC final against Team USA on Tuesday night.
Italy went up 2-0 in the second inning, but Eugenio Suarez got one back in the fourth with a deep homer to left-center:
Venezuela then scored three runs in the seventh, playing station-to-station, with four two-out singles after a leadoff walk.
Mets hurler Nolan McLean will start for Team USA, which won a coin toss to be the home team, while Diamondbacks southpaw Eduardo Rodríguez will start for Venezuela.
My take: McLean will look to rebound off his only other start, giving up three runs in three innings in the loss to Italy. Likewise for Rodriguez, who gave up three runs in 2.2 innings against the Dominican Republic.
