Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel likely thought he was doen addressing the media reagring the Dianna Russini scandal, but he had to speak with them again Thursday, when photos of him kissing Russini on March 11, 2020 emerged, along with pictures of him together with Russini on January 31, 2024, at a casino in Biloxi, Miss., though nothing of an intimate nature.
Vrabel said this when asked about the photos of the two kissing: "I take accountability for my actions and the actions that caused a distraction to the people that I care most about. ... My previous actions don't meet the standard that I hold myself to. My priorities are my family and this football team, in that order. And there is a balance there that I am going to create."
When asked why he initially said the phots of he and Russini at the Arizona resort were "laughable," Vrabel said, "That's a private and personal matter. I don't think that those comments ... it was an attempt to protect [my] family." He then left the podium and exited the room.
Vrable earlier said he has no idea when he wil return to the Patriots, citing his family as a priority and could not commit to being at all team activities coming up. The Patriots issued a statement supporting Vrabel and his decision to seek help. Russini has not commented on any of the developments over Wednesday and Thursday.
My take: Ugh, I can't wait to stop reporting this story. It is getting to be a distraction for the organization, so it is news and Vrabel keeps addressing it, but it's just salacious at this point. The man cheated on his wife, perhaps for years, has done real damage to his family and has likely lost respect with some in his organization and football team. Time will tell if he can recover any of it.
