The Major League Baseball Players Association has picked former deputy executive director Bruce Meyer to be its interim executive director, following Tuesday's resignation of Tony Clark, after it was discovered Clark was having an affair with his sister-in-law, who works for MLBPA. Clark is also under federal investigation for self-dealing and abuse of power.
In a statement, the union said, “Meyer will continue to act as the MLBPA’s chief negotiator for the union’s next Basic Agreement, which expires in December of this year.”
Meyer is an experienced labor lawyer who has been with MLBPA since 2018, serving as Senior Director of Collective Bargaining and Legal until he was promoted to be Clark's deputy in July 2022.
My take: No matter who ends up in that job, it will be a pit bull against a salary cap. Will that person be reasonable enough to recognize a losing casue in time to salvage some of the 2027 season?
