The Padres have designated for assignment IF/OF Nick Castellanos. Castellanos, 34, was on a one-year contract in free agency for $780,000.
The 12-year veteran really struggled this season. In 39 games, he slashed .191/.221/.339 with four home runs and 20 RBIs.
My take: He and Marcell Ozuna can dress up as each other for Halloween. Castellanos is five years removed from his last really good season. He hit 29 home runs with 106 RBIs with the Phillies in 2023, but only managed a 1.5 WAR. Even then, that was three years ago.
