Port Vale's unlikely run to an FA Cup championship came to an unceremonious end when the they lost to Chelsea, 7-0, at Stamford Bridge, London.
The Stoke-on-Trent side, celebrating its 150 year, is not only in England's third division — EFL League One — it is dead last in table and will be relegated to EFL League Two once the season completes. They made the FA Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 72 years and are the first third-division club to make the top eight since Sheffield United in 2014. On their path this season, they beat EFL Championship side Bristol City, and Sunderland of the Premier League.
The annual competition comprised of the top 10 levels of English football, now advances to the semifinals, with Chelsea, Manchester City of the Premier League, Southampton of the second tier EFL Championship, and the winner Sunday between Premier League sides West Ham United and Leeds United.
