The National Football League is preparing a list of 100 referees and on-field officials that it could use as replacements should they not come to terms with the officials' union on a new collective bargaining agreement, with the current one set to expire in May.
The potential replacements are being recruited from the low-level college ranks and alternate football leagues.
The last time there were replacement officials was in 2012, and fans were blessed with the infamous "Fail Mary."
My take: The only thing worse than NFL refs is wannabe NFL refs. Get the deal done.
