U.S. defenseman Megan Keller scored the golden goal against Canada, at 4:07 into three-on-three overtime, to give the U.S. a 2-1 win at the Milano Santagiulia Arena, the program's third Olympic gold (1998, 2018).
High drama and a fitting ending to a fantastic game that featured strong goaltending by Canada's Ann-Renée Desbiens and Arien Frankel, who was exceptional against Canada's decided edge in quality high-danger chances, yielding only a shorthanded breakaway goal.
Captain Hilary Knight's historic goal (see post below) got the U.S. to overtime, a tip-in tally with the goalie pulled.
My take: Anything less would have been devastating to the U.S. team, which dominated opponents throughout the tournament, yielding only two goals. They showed a lot of character to get the tying goal late against a terrific Canada team that played a near-perfect game.
