Former Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III was denied parole by the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners. Ruggs is entering his fourth year of a 3- to 10-year sentence after pleading guilty in 2023 to one felony count of DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor vehicular homicide count.
Ruggs, now 27, was a second-year player when he drove under the influence at reckless speed, crashing into the vehicle of a Las Vegas woman, whose car rolled and burst into flames, with the woman and her dog trapped in the burning vehicle, killing both.
Ruggs is now eligible for parole every year until his sentence expires in 2033.
My take: Ruggs is using his time in prison to try and do some good. He gets day passes to speak to at-risk youth and speaks to other groups to share his experience. It doesn't bring the woman back, but hopefully it prevents another from suffering the same fate.
