Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov has won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League's most valuable player, as voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association, in a very close vote. It is Kucherov's second Hart win, previously earning the award for the 2018-19 season.
Kucherov's votes totaled 1,436 points, just 10 more than runner-up Connor McDavid. Kucherov had 72 of the first-place votes, McDavid 68, and third-place finisher Nathan MacKinnon 52.
Kucherov had 44 goals and 86 assists (130 points) in 76 games, while McDavid led the league in scoring with 48 goals and 90 assists (138 points) in 82 games. Kucherov had a higher points-per-game average — 1.71 to 1.68.
My take: That's another crazy close vote this awards season, with Kucherov's coach Jon Cooper win the Jack Adams by three points of the Sabres' Lindy Ruff.
