No. 2 Virginia Commonwealth University repeated as A-10 champions, beating No. 4 Dayton, 70-62, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, guaranteeing a spot in the NCAA Tournament. It was the 50th anniversary of the conference tournament and was back in Pittsburgh for the first time since 2019.
VCU got off to a fast start, taking a 40-25 lead into the half, Dayton played better in the second half but never got closer than seven points. Rams guard Nyk Lewis led all players in points (17) and rebounds (11). Dayton could not match VCU in long-range shooting — VCU had four more made three-pointers) and the Flyers were terrible on free throws, making just 9 of 17 from the line.
Though official attendance hasn't been released, organizers project attendace throuhgout the tournament drew total attendance of 40-45,000.
