In a rare player-for-player swap this time of year, the Jets have sent linebacker Jermaine Johnson — a first round pick in 2022 — to the Titans for interior defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat, pending physicals.
Sweat, a second-round pick in 2024, has 85 career tackles, 8 tackles for a loss and 3.0 sacks in 29 career games 28 starts). Johnson, highly touted out of Florida State, showed promise his frist two seasons, post 7.5 sacks, seven passes defensed and a forced fumble in 2023, but his missed 15 games in 2024 after blowing out his Achilles in Week 2, then struggled to find explosiveness last season, registering 43 tackles and 3.0 sacks in 14 games.
My take: It's nice to be wanted. Each team sees potential in the player they're getting, but Johnson has the highest ceiling, and Robert Saleh knows how to get the most out of linebackers. If Johnson can regain his former physical form, this will look like a lopsided deal.
