The Capitals have traded center Nic Dowd to the Golden Knights for Swedish goalie prospect Jesper Vikman, a second-round pick in 2029, and a third-round pick in 2027. Dowd has one year remaining on his contract at $3 million.
Vikman, 23, turned pro in 2023. He has played 18 games in the AHL this season, posting a 3.41 goals-against average and an .866 save percentage.
My take: Teams are shelling out relatively high picks for third-line centers, albeit a couple years away. Still, it skews the market. The Avs overpayed for Nicolas Roy (see post below).
