One day after Colts general manager Chris Ballard said the team still believed in and had hope for quarterback Anthony Richardson, they announced that they've allowed him to seek a trade.
Richardson, 23, was the fourth-overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, and the Colst immediately made him a starter. Injuries, however, have defined his career more than his play. In 2023 he suffered an ankle injury , a concussion, and finally an AC Joint sprain that ended his season after four games played. 2024 saw him miss six games to back spasms and an oblique injury, and in 2025, he missed 12 games after breaking an orbital bone with an exercise band during pre-game warmups on October 12.
For his career, he's appeared in 17 games (15 starts), with an 8-7 record, completing 50.6 percent of his passes for 2,400 yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, adding 634 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns.
The Colts are expected to decline Richardson's fifth-year option as a first-round draft pick, making this the final year of his contract, but he can be had for a $10.8 million cap hit.
My take: Richardson is a tough call in a trade becasue he's never been healthy in his career, missing too much time to really grow into the job on the field. He's an athletic freak and has all the tools, but whether or not he can be a starting NFL quarterback is anyone's guess. It's relatively cheap to find out.
