The Ducks have the upper hand in their series against the Oilers, scoring four times in the third period to win 7-4 at Honda Center in Anaheim. The win gives the Ducks a two games to one lead in the series.
Anaheim struggled to get shots on goal in Edmonton, but put up 16 in the first period and 39 in the game, while holding the Oilers to 24. Despite the volume, the game was tied at 3-3 entering the third period, when Bennett Sennecke and Leo Carlsson scored 42 seconds apart to make it 5-3 Ducks. Connor McDavid answered on the power play five minutes later — his first goal and just second point in the series — but AHL stalwart Jeffrey Viel scored his first career NHL playoff goal on a nice backhand to return the lead to two goals:
My take: The Oilers are struggling to get goal production from McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, with just one goal combined and just four total points. A concerted effort to match-up versus those two has been the reason. Connor Ingram has been just OK in goal for Edmonton and gave up a couple softies in Game 3. Will the Oilers try Tristan Jarry in a critical Game 4?
