The anger from fans and politicians was too much even for FIFA to bear, as the world's governing body for soccer reversed a reusable plastic-bottle ban at the World Cup, announced Thursday.
FIFA released a statement Friday reversing the decision and allowing each fan only "one, soft, plastic, 20 ounces (590ml), factory sealed disposable water bottle into any FIFA World Cup 2026 match in the USA and Canada."
My take: I just hate FIFA. Every four years they react to things related to the World Cup like they're just hearing about the event. One would think that teams' cost and expense would be fixed, regardless of venue. Nope. One would think that negotiations would have resulted in all teams paying the same taxes based on the states and municipalities they're in. Nope. One would think there would be legit, dynamic ticket-pricing. Nope. Fixed public-transportation costs to the venues? Nope.
