The United States Women's National Team rebounded from a 3-2 loss Saturday to Brazil, beating them 1-0 Tuesday night, in a match that saw Brazil players and staff receive eight red cards.
The U.S. was dominating, forcing a lot of physical play by Brazil. The U.S. matched, as the teams combined for 10 yellow cards. Brazil's head coach Arthur Elias was given a red card for conduct, as were three other assistants. Two Brazil players — Beatriz Zaneratto João and Tarciane — received reds in stoppage time, and two of their teammates received reds after the match for their post-match attacks towards the referee.
Sophia Wilson scored from the top of the box in the 63rd minute, after a nice cut in from the wing, the shot deflecting off defender Isabela Chagas. It was later changed to an own-goal.
My take: This was a brutal game to watch, literally and figuratively, but at least the U.S. was on good form.
