Looks like Myles Garrett will get to compete for a championship after all. The Browns have agreed to the framework of a trade that would send the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year to the Rams for defensive end Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick and other draft compensation that is still being negotiated but not expected to tank the deal.
Garrett, 30, has been voted the top defender in the NFL twice and is a five-time First Team All-Pro selection. An elite pass-rusher, he has 125.5 career sacks in 134 games played over nine seasons, 239 quarterback hits, 23 forced fumbles and 18 passes defensed.
The Browns get Verse, 25, who has been voted to the Pro Bowl each of his first two NFL seasons and was the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024. He has 12 career sacks in 33 games played, 45 quarterback hits, five forced fumbles and three passes defensed.
My take: This is a good deal for the Browns. They give away a malcontent making $40 million per year on the tail end of his career for Verse, an emerging superstar with three seasons remaining on his rookie deal. The Browns d-line might be better overall with Verse, who's a violent, penetrating defender who models his game after Aaron Donald.
