Florida center Olivier Rioux has entered the transfer portal after his redshirt freshman season, in a search for playing time that was scarce with Todd Golden's experienced roster.
The 7-foot-9 Rioux, a Quebec native of a Montreal suburb, is the tallest player to appear in a Division I game. However, he only made it onto the floor 11 times, late in blowout wins, registering seven total points on the season, on 3 of 6 shooting, with six rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes of play.
My take: Jeff Capel should be downloading Duolingo right now. He should call Rioux and give him detailed flight information about daily non-stops from Pittsburgh to Montreal, then tell him he can enter the Cathedral of Learning without having to duck. On the court he can play as much as he wants and, oh by the way, here's a few million a year, which is worth 1.4x back home.
