Purdue guard Braden Smith had eight assists in the No. 2 Boilermakers' 104-71 rout of No. 15 Queens University at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, but the second one was historic — his 1,077 made him the all-time assist leader in NCAA Division I history, passing Bobby Hurley, who set the record with Duke in 1993.
Smith, now at 1,083 assists, can continue to build the record Sunday, when Purdue will face No. 7 Miami.
My take: That's a lot of assists and a long-standing record, but it also says something that Smith isn't a household name among sports fans the way Hurley was in his playing days.
