8-seed Mirra Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title, defeating unseeded Maja Chwalińska, 6-3, 6-2, to win the French Open women's singles title at Roland Garros.
Chwalińska's cinderella run from the pre-tournament qualifiers ended in a barrage of winners from Andreeva — 25 to just 10 of her own — with Andreeva taking control of the match in the middle of the first set, winning nine straight games to take the first set and a commanding lead in the second. The match lasted 1 hour and 22 minutes.
My take: This was an entertaining match, despite the score. There was only one ace, so there were a lot of long rallies and quality shots from both players. Andreeva was just on — 25 winners in 17 games, and really controlling the points from the baseline. Terrific tournament.
