Tigers rookie shortstop Kevin McGonigle is only two games into this major-league career, but the 21-year-old isn't finding MLB too tough just yet. After opening the season going 4 for 5 against the Padres, his second game saw him get robbed of a home run by center fielder Jackson Merrill:
Then he faced southpaw 11-year veteran Wandy Peralta, with the bases loaded and two outs, game tied 2-2 in the eighth inning. He worked a 10-pitch at-bat, which ended this way:
Tigers 5, Padres 2.
My take: Quite a start for the young man. The game is the great equalizer, so he will face some challenges soon enough. Still, it's an impressive start and surely gives him the confidence that he belongs.
