With 7:40 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Knicks trailed the Cavaliers by 22 points at Madison Square Garden, but New York went on a 30-8 run to close out the game, tying it at 101-101, then continued that streak into overtime, outscoring Cleveland 14-3, to take Game 1 of the NBA's Eastern Conference semifinal, 115-104. It was the largest deficit the Knicks have ever overcome in a playoff game.
Knicks guard Jalen Brunson scored 15 of his game-high 38 points in the fourth quarter to lead the charge to overtime. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 29 points, but had zero in the fourth quarter and overtime.
My take: I turned this game on with just over eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Maybe the Cavs ran out of gas at the end, having just survived a seven-game series against the Pistons, while the Knicks were well-rested after sweeping the Sixers. Maybe a combination. Whichever way, 1-0 Knicks.
