In the least-surprising event ever, the Eagles traded receiver A.J. Brown to the Patriots, ending a transaction long expected when the calendar hit June 1. In exchange, the Eagles get a first-round pick in 2028 and a fifth-round pick in 2027.
The three-time Pro Bowl receiver reunites with his former Titans head coach, Mike Vrabel. Brown was vocally displeased with his role in the Eagles offense and asked ot be dealt, but the Eagles played possum, with the front office down to quarterback Jalen Hurts insisting all was well and fences were mended.
The Eagles traded up in the first round this year to take receiver Makai Lemon out of USC, expecting to move Brown, who is entering his eighth season. The former second-round pick out of Mississippi is under contract through 2029. A three-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2024 kicks in at the start of the 2027 season, at an annual AAV of $32 million.
My take: I had one so long ago, I forgot. He's another weapon for Drake Maye and he was just going to be a headache for the Eagles had he stayed, so win-win. Philly did well to get a first-round pick out of the deal.
