Cubs starter Jameson Taillon left Sunday night's start in the second inning with a left hamstring strain. Taillon winced after throwing a pitch that went wide for ball four, walking Giants hitter Matt Chapman, then immediately signaled for a trainer.
Postgame, manager Craig Counsell said Taillon will be placed on the injured list, meaning he will miss two starts minimum. It's been a tough season for Taillon. The former Pirate, now 34, had lost four straight decisions entering Sunday's game, posting a 2-5 record this season, with a 5.17 ERA.
The Cubs went on to lose the game, 2-1, in extra innings.
My take: Bad luck for Taillon, who's been beset by lower body injuries for much of his career. The Cubs get Matthew Boyd back from IL next weekend, so that mitigates any long-term damage to the rotation.
