Player reps for the NFL Players Association elected former Browns offensive lineman JC Tretter to the lead the union as its next executive director. Tretter previously served the NFLPA as the player president and most recently as its chief strategy office, but he resigned in July 2025, after former executive director Lloyd Howell Jr. resigned under pressure over misuse of funds. Tretter was selected over two other finalists, includig interim executive director David White.
NFL commisioner Roger Goodell released a statement congratulating Tretter, saying, "We have worked with JC for several years, first as union president when he helped the league and the NFLPA successfully navigate through COVID during the 2020 season. We look forward to building upon that relationship to further our shared priorities, including our commitment to advancing player health and safety and ensuring the global growth of our game for our fans, the players and our clubs."
My take: No surprise. Tretter has long had respect among the players and the league. Everyone's getting rich right now, so it's just about that 18th regular-season game, the expansion of international games, and safety issues unitl he'll have to think about the the next CBA negotiations in 2029.
