The Senators have traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Panthers wil he will be united with his brother Matthew, in a blockbuster deal Sunday, for three first-round picks — No. 9 and No. 25 in this week's draft, a first-round pick in 2029 and a second-round pick in 2030.
Brady has two seasons left on his contract at $8.2 million per season. Several reports suggest Brady pushed for a deal, wanting to play with Matthew.
Brady, who had been the Senators captain the last five seasons, scored 22 goals with 37 assists in 60 games in 2025-26. Injuries limited Matthew to 31 games last season. He had 34 points (13 G, 21 A).
The Panthers missed the playoffs this season after appearing winning consecutive Stanley Cups and making three straight finals. The Senators have made the past two playoffs after a seven-year drought.
My take: Well, I'm not sure I saw that coming. The Senators get a lot of draft capital, which they'll have to use for trades if they are going to get full value out of them (beyond the No. 9 this year). Unless the Panthers go one some skid, those picks will be in the 20s.
