Quarterback Russell Wilson announced Wednesday his retirement from the National Football League after 14 seasons. As posted here Monday, Wilson declined an offer from the Jets to back up Geno Smith this season to accept an offer to be a studio analyst for CBS's "NFL Today."
Wilson, 37, was selected to 10 Pro Bowls and was selected the 2020 Walter Payton Man of the Year. He won Super Bowl XLVIII, leading the Seahawks to a 43-8 win over the favored Broncos. He led Seattle back to Super Bow XLIX the next season, but his interception on the final play ended in a 28-24 defeated to the Patriots.
In 205 career games with the Seahawks, Broncos, Steelers and Giants, Wilson finishes with a 121-80-1 record, completing 64.4 percent of his passes for 46,966 yards (16th all-time), 353 touchdowns (12th) and 114 interceptions.
My take: Definitely time to hang it up. Bloom was off the rose — the Jets were his only offer in the offseason. He can always change his mind later, but he should follow in Matt Ryan's footsteps and embrace the TV gig.
