Group C got underway Saturday and when the dust settled Scotland, in its first World Cup since 1998, sat atop the table, getting a 1-0 win over Haiti in Boston, while Brazil and Morocco played to a 1-1 draw.
Scotland and Haiti played an even match, with Haiti having a 13-8 advantage in shot attempts, but luck found the Scots, with John McGinn's goal in the 21st minute coming off a deflection.
The most anticipated match in the early going of the tournament was Brazil vs. Morocco, the sixth- and seventh-ranked teams in the FIFA standings, respectively. The teams did not disappoint, level in play and on the scoreboard, with each scoring terrific goals.
First, it was Morocco's Ismail Saibari in the 21st minute ...
My take: Brazil and Morocco were in Scotland's group in 1998, and it's the Scots' bad fortune that they draw them again. It's good they got the points off Haiti. Morocco awaits Friday in Boston. Manage a draw and who knows.
