Andrew Marchand of The New York Times reported Thursday that NBC is expecting to eliminate Hall of Fame head coach and analyst Tony Dungy from Sunday Night Football after 17 seasons, as NBC is looking to makeover the pre- and postgame shows.
Marchand wrote that a final decision has not been made but Dungy is likely out, according to sources. Dungy joined SNF with fellow analyst and former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison in 2009. Harrison is expected to remain on the program.
My take: Dungy, 70, has been a mainstay and provides insightful analysis, but these shows are more entertainment than football focused. It's all about personalities and though an amiable man, Dungy doesn't rank high in bombast.
