Joe Burrow showed plenty of confidence in this year's Bengals team during his press availability Wednesday. The seven-year veteran quarterback cautioned that the offense needs to "get back to being the explosive offense that we were in ’21 and ’22," but said he was thrilled to have all five starting offensive linemen from last season returning, and that the front office bolstered the defense over the offseason, including getting "the best D-tackle in the league, in my opinion,” referencing Dexter Lawrence, who was acquired in a trade with the Giants.
“I think this is the most talented roster that we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Burrow said. “I just think we know where we needed to be better, and we went out and aggressively made it happen. We’re going to go win a lot of games this year and play great and win a Super Bowl.”
My take: Burrow left out the bit where he can't seem to finish a season. He's unquestionably a top-five quarterback in the NFL, but he's only played three full seasons out of six, out with various injuries, including just eight games played last season. The defense should be better, but there is no depth on that side of the ball. So it will fall on the offense ... and a healthy Burrow, who is backed up by Joe Flacco and Josh Johnson.
