The Penguins will put Tristan Jarry on waivers at 2 p.m. Wednesday, where he’ll remain for 24 hours.
If he goes unclaimed, he can be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the first $1.15 million of his cap hit would come off the books. If he is claimed, the acquiring team would take on the remainder of his entire contract. Jarry has four years left (including this one) on a contract that carries a $5.38 million cap hit.
Jarry does not have to be sent down to the AHL if he clears, and can remain in the NHL for 10 more games or up to 30 days on the active roster before he’d need waivers to be sent down again. However, Jarry being absent from practice on Wednesday is usually an indication that he will be sent down if he clears.
If Jarry is sent down or claimed, either Filip Larsson or Joel Blomqvist could be in the running for a recall. Larsson has a .927 save percentage, a 2.44 goals-against average and four shutouts in 13 games. Blomqvist has a .912 save percentage, 2.93 goals against average and one shutout in 12 games.
