• Third round: Ville Koivunen is stopped. Penguins lose.
• Second round. Sidney Crosby's shot is gloved down Troy Terry goes wide.
• First round, Penguins shooting first: Tommy Novak shoots first and is stopped. Leo Carlsson roofs it. Ducks up 1-0.
• Onto a shootout. Redemption time for Arturs Silovs? He's stopped one of eight shots in shootouts.
• One minute remaining.
• Oh my. Connor Dewar's shot hit the post, hit Ville Husso's stick, goes off him, is in the crease, Sidney Crosby can't put it in. Down to 1:38 left.
• Ben Kindel is out there in OT.
• Well, onto OT.
• GOAL: My gosh. 0.1 seconds left, it just barely went in. This one is going to overtime. Penguins 3, Ducks 3
• Uhhhh. Ducks think they scored. But was that before the buzzer?
• Ducks take a tripping penalty with 17.5 left. Guess that'll do it.
• Ducks going for the extra attacker. Two minutes left.
• GOAL: Anthony Mantha was trying to pass to Bryan Rust but it went off Ville Husso and in on the power play. Penguins 3, Ducks 2
• Penguins get a power play with 4:02 left. Ross Johnston sits for two, serving a penalty from Ville Husso for holding Rutger McGroarty's stick.
• Penguins hit 38 shots, a new season-high. Previous high of 37 was in the loss in Toronto.
• Radko Gudas sticks his stick between Tommy Novak's legs and trips him ... and no call. Penguins' bench is mad.
• Frank Vatrano just left for the Ducks, he blocked a shot with his stick and it deflected up into his face.
• Look how well they're protecting the net-front at five-on-five:
NATURAL STAT TRICK
• Third period is underway.
• End of the second. Goals from Noel Acciari and Tommy Novak have this one tied, 2-2. Shots are 29-18 Penguins
• GOAL: Tommy Novak ties it. Felt that one coming from him, he's been solid here. That was almost Michigan-like. He picked up the rebound on his stick and took it behind the net but put it in off the back of Ville Husso.Penguins 2, Ducks 2
• Almost at the end of this period and the third defense pairing's xG% is still 100%. Crazy. And that's with only being on the ice for one offensive zone faceoff, they're not being sheltered.
• Tommy Novak just came close to tying it.
• GOAL: Troy Terry roofs it after Erik Karlsson turned the puck over in the Penguins' end. Ducks 2, Penguins 1
• Penguins kill the penalty.
• Now the Penguins go to the PK with 9:50 left in the second, Danton Heinen for interference.
• Nothing on the power play.
• Penguins get a third power play with 12:38 left in the second. Too many men.
• GOAL: Ducks tie it with a weird one. Jackson LaCombe scores far-side from the goal line, really tough angle. Penguins 1, Ducks 1
• Ryan Graves with a great long pass to spring Connor Dewar on a partial breakaway.
• Ville Koivunen nearly has one go in off his foot but it gets swept away by one of the defensemen. I think that would have counted had it gone in.
• The Connor Clifton-Ryan Graves pairing has an expected goals for percentage of 100%. I can't remember ever seeing that. The third line's is 90.26%
• That's that for the remainder of the power play.
• Second period is underway.
• HALF of the Penguins' 18 shots are from the third line. Four from Rutger McGroarty, three from Ben Kindel, two from Ville Koivunen.
• End of the first and the Penguins are up 1-0 after Noel Acciari's first goal of the season. Shots are 18-8 Penguins. They have 31 seconds left on the power play to open the second. Great start.
• Aaaand Penguins go right back on the power play with 1:29 left in the first. Chris Kreider gets two for cross-checking Connor Dewar.
• Nothing on the power play other than two shots.
• Penguins get the game's first power play with 4:13 left in the first, Leo Carlsson gets two for hooking Justin Brazeau. Penguins are already outshooting Anaheim 15-8.
• GOAL: Wow. Danton Heinen is tossed from the faceoff circle. Noel Acciari wins the draw and it bounces over to Connor Dewar, Dewar kicks it back to Acciari and Acciari scores from the dot. Penguins 1, Ducks 0
• Penguins get a few more good chances out of the third line, there was a scramble in front of the net at the end of the shift. Ben Kindel kicked the puck and it nearly went in off a Duck, then Connor Clifton crashes the net and almost capitalizes.
• Nobody's forced to put on a Pride jersey for nights like these or anything but a few of the Penguins players put one on for their walk into the building -- Tristan Jarry, Ryan Graves, Connor Clifton, Connor Dewar, Noel Acciari among them.
• Four of the Penguins' first six shots have come from the third line -- three from Rutger McGroarty, one from Ville Koivunen.
• This is a fast Ducks team and at least through the first six minutes, the Penguins look like the team with more jump.
• Solid first shift for the third line. Rutger McGroarty gets a good shot, the rebound is just barely out of reach from Ville Koivunen. Ben Kindel skates the puck in on the next rush and Koivunen gets a good shot out of it. Seems like the floodgates are going to open for him after getting his first goal.
• Penguins get the game's first two shots, then Arturs Silovs stops a shot from Beckett Sennecke crashing the net.
• This is underway.
• Ducks' lines and pairings. Old friend Jansen Harkins is scratched:
Chris Kreider - Leo Carlsson - Troy Terry Cutter Gauthier - Mason McTavish - Bennett Sennecke Ross Johnston - Ryan Poehling - Mikael Granlund Frank Vatrano - Ryan Strome - Alex Killorn
Jackson LaCombe - Jacob Trouba Olen Zellweger - Radko Gudas Pavel Mintyukov - Drew Helleson
• No surprises with the Penguins' lines and pairings, same as this morning:
Tommy Novak - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust Anthony Mantha - Kevin Hayes - Justin Brazeau Rutger McGroarty - Ben Kindel - Ville Koivunen Connor Dewar - Danton Heinen - Noel Acciari
Parker Wotherspoon - Erik Karlsson Ryan Shea - Kris Letang Ryan Graves - Connor Clifton
