Arturs Silovs has been pretty good for the Penguins. From Jan. 11-March 4, he led all of the NHL's regular goaltenders in save percentage (.936) and goals-against average (1.73).
This 6-2 loss to the Golden Knights isn't one he'd want to remember, though, stopping 11 of 16 shots. That figure's at least a little misleading, in that the skaters in front of him didn't exactly conduct a defensive cliniing, but he still needed to be better.
Something that Silovs found challenging, he said, was the Golden Knights' shot selection. They weren't going for quantity -- they were going for Grade-As.
"I felt like they weren't shooting that much for like, unnecessary shots," he said. "They're shooting from the slot, they created good chances."
Dan Muse elaborated on Silovs' point when I asked about his goaltender's performance.
"You look at the goals," Muse said. "I know I've used this term before, but they were loud. Just allowing odd-man rushes and plays in the slot. So I thought Arty came up with some good saves. ... You gave some really good shooters some really clean looks there tonight."
With the way the goaltending rotation has been going, Stuart Skinner was almost certainly getting that Saturday start in Salt Lake City regardless. Silovs probably has through the weekend to reset, and then he'll get that Monday start against the Avalanche.
"It was a hard game," he said. "But you keep going. Have morning skates. Just go from there."
