Dylan Larkin had the game's only goal through two periods, but Mika Zibanejad forced overtime with a tying goal with 1:31 remaining in regulation. Quinn Hughes scored in the extra fame to send the U.S. to the semifinals.
Both Karlsson and Rakell were scoreless in the loss. Karlsson finishes the tournament with four assists, while Rakell had one lone assist.
The semifinal round is set for Friday. The U.S. will play Slovakia, and Canada will play Finland.
