Sidney Crosby was added to Canada's World Championship roster ... only days after Macklin Celebrini was named captain of Team Canada for the tournament, set to be held May 15-31 in Switzerland. Crosby hasn't not worn the 'C' for Canada since he was an alternate in 2010. He's been Captain Canada ever since.
Crosby joined the team for practice in Switzerland on Thursday, and he was asked afterward what happens with the captaincy.
"We'll figure it out," Crosby said. "(Celebrini) has had an unbelievable year, he looks amazing out here. I can see why he got selected. He's got so many great leadership qualities. We'll figure it out."
Asked if it matters to him whether he gets the 'C', Crosby said, "No. It's an honor every time you get to wear the 'C' but we've got so many great leaders on this team. It'll be a quick discussion, and it'll get sorted."
Celebrini was asked about being named captain, and after calling it an "honor" to wear the 'C' for Canada's two exhibition games, he volunteered that they'll "have a conversation about what we're going to do moving forward."
On Crosby, Celebrini said, "Everybody knows he's captain Canada. He's been the captain of the national team for so many years. He's the face of Canada, the face of hockey in general. We just have to talk about it."
