Kris Letang has been on milestone watch for awhile, hitting career point No. 799 back on March 1 in a win over the Golden Knights. And after 11 scoreless games, Letang finally hit point No. 800 in the Penguins' 6-2 loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday, picking up a secondary assist on Egor Chinakhov's goal in the first period.
Letang the 21st defenseman in NHL history to reach 800 points and the fourth active defenseman to do so, joining only Brent Burns (939), Erik Karlsson (924) and Victor Hedman (811).
Dan Muse said that he was "disappointed" the Penguins couldn't pull out a win on Letang's milestone night.
"It's a special one there for him, and it's well-deserved," Muse said. "You see the preparation he puts in all the time, his dedication to this game, to this team, to this organization, and you see why he's been doing this for so long. I hope nobody takes for granted what these guys are doing just because you're seeing it all the time and you're seeing a new milestone, it feels like, every few weeks."
