Muse going to 'keep challenging' for goaltender interference
Dan Muse cut me off when I started my question by saying I believed they were now 0-for-6 in goaltender interference challenges this season.
"Oh yeah, I'm at least that, yeah," he said with a grin.
The Penguins failed their sixth straight goaltender interference challenge this season, challenging the Devils' lone goal in a 4-1 win, a Paul Cotter deflection that was upheld despite Cotter's contact with Arturs Silovs' glove.
Silovs shrugged it off afterward, saying he didn't think much about the call, but said he has "no idea" what goaltender interference even is, and that it's "really hard to understand."
The Penguins are still trying to figure that out too, but Muse made clear he'll keep challenging.
"It's not always clear cut," Muse said. "And so I'm not going into it saying I've got to be 100%, or even 90% or 80%. Sometimes it's less than that. He's in the blue paint. I got a goalie who I felt like didn't get a full opportunity to do his job because of that. Did I think that was going to be a no-brainer, we're definitely going to get this? I didn't, but I'm not always thinking that way. I know what the record is. Honestly, I'm not too concerned with that. Just keep challenging until I get one or I don't. We'll see where it goes. But I'm going to go off of what I feel is the best thing in that moment. And sometimes, I want to back up my goalie."
