• Ballgame. Shutout. In every way.
• GOAL. Empty-netter by Glendening ... 2:05 left.
• Three straight giveaways at the Philadelphia blue line, when all that was needed was a dump. 4:17.
• Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss ... 5:20 left.
• Malkin with a tip of Karlsson's targeted feed from the right point. Vladar gloves it. 7:22 left.
• Ten minutes left.
• Nope. Grazes the right pipe.
• Penalty shot coming for Tippett. He earned it, too. And he'll score.
• That's a kill.
• Kindel with a great chance. You'll never guess. Shoots wide.
• Good God, they just gave up a two-on-none short-handed. Skinner with the save.
• This had better be a goal.
• Konecny's off for interference. Trying to take Sid with him. Won't happen.
• A one-timed blast from Sid, followed by his first big shift. Crowd beginning to feel it.
• Chinakhov now with two good chances.
• Now another good save by Vladar, this on a Novak backhander.
• Two more misses, then a point-blank shot by, of all people, Girard. Vladar does very well to get the left toe out to stop it.
• Crowd's still here, still vocal.
• Third's underway. Flyers still have 1:41 of power play.
• So that's now 48 shot attempts, and 19 misses.
• That's period. Awful.
• I always say this, but when the refs are bad, they're both ways. They've hurt the Flyers all night, and they were bound to do something like this. Hilarious.
• Oh, wow. They upheld something that was completely incorrect.
• Refs missed the high stick on Geno. Wasn't his stick. They'll need to reverse this. It's totally Ristolainen's stick that came up.
• That's gotta be 150 misses in this game. Not sure I've seen anything like it. Everyone misses everything.
• GOAL. Short-handed. Giveaway behind the net by Skinner. Martone stickhandles through two Penguins and sets up Hathaway for a tap-in. So, so bad. All of it. Time: 17:47, second period. Flyers, 2-0
• Glendening's off for an alleged cross-check on Dewar. That's a bad call. The Penguins have really benefited from the officiating tonight ... and they've done nothing with it.
• GOAL. And sure enough, the first remote sign of offense results in Philadelphia breaking through. Martone, the rookie, with the backhander, off a modest flurry. Assists: Konecny, Dvorak. Time: 13:39, second period. Flyers, 1-0
• Chinakhov's back on the Geno line.
• The past 2-3 minutes have seen the Penguins' most consistent push. And to be honest, I'm starting to wonder, purely from the Philadelphia perspective, how much longer they can withstand this. It's a hell of a way to play hockey. Demanding. Dull.
• A shift for the Monster after the kill. Geno takes a drop pass from Sid and registers a shot. That's four now that've made contact with Vladar.
• Nearly effortless kill there. No shots.
• Too many men on the Penguins. Dewar played the puck while heading off.
• Wotherspoon gets away with a really nasty crosscheck from behind that rams Zegras' face into the boards.
• Second's underway. Somebody needs to put pucks on Vladar, with all this space.
• End period. Ridiculous. The Penguins attempted 19 shots, missed 11, had seven blocked ... and registered TWO? Yep, a shot was just taken away.
• NINE missed shots already!
• That's 0 for 3 on the power play. Can't keep missing the net.
• Flyers' PK so aggressive. But that leaves the box open. Take it. Get in there.
• Seeler's off for roughing Acciari. The latter's showing blood, which would suggest the butt-end of the stick got through. Nothing doing. It's a minor.
• Lots of good looks for the Penguins this period. Also lots of misses. Some by design. Maybe try putting some pucks on the very ordinary goaltender.
• Ristolainen's off for roughing Sid. Commissioner in the house.
• Girard's just so bad, you guys. So bad.
• Karlsson's off for a wholly phantom trip on Sanheim. Ouch. Crowd sees it on the board and goes apoplectic. No contact was made. None.
• Foerster off for high-sticking Mantha.
• The Penguins are just playing their game. That'll benefit them in the longer haul, provided they get the calls they earn. ... Which they just did as I'm typing this. LOL
• Good neutral-zone penetration so far, entirely through passing. Which is what I expected. Muse doesn't like change.
• Strong opening shift for the Geno line. Mostly focused on hockey.
• Faceoff: Novak vs. Glendening, 7:10 p.m.
• Just had a chance at a quick chat here with T.J. Watt, Pat Freiermuth, Spencer Anderson, Nick Herbig and Will Howard, today’s group of Steelers who’ll do the big pregame rev-up.
