It seemed like a given, but now it's official: Penguins forward prospect Will Horcoff will be on Team USA's squad for the World Junior Championship, set to be held from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minn.
Horcoff, 18, leads the entire NCAA in goals (19) and is tied for second in points (28) in 20 games. This will be his first World Junior Championship.
The U.S. played two pre-tournament games, an 8-0 win over Germany on Sunday and a 3-1 win over Finland on Tuesday. Horcoff scored twice against Germany and once against Finland.
Team USA plays its first game on Friday against Germany at 6 p.m. Eastern.
Horcoff will be one of two Penguins prospects in the tournament, along with Harrison Brunicke on Canada. Canada's first game will be Friday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern against Czechia. The games will be aired on the NHL Network.
