Anthony Mantha's name was one that was thrown around in trade speculation leading up to Friday's deadline. There were never any actual reports or rumors, just a lot of talk given reality -- he's 31 years old and a pending unrestricted free agent.
Mantha said he started to really think about the possibility in the days leading up to the deadline, and now that it's passed he's happy that he didn't get moved out at the deadline.
"It feels good," Mantha told me. "We're here now. I want to help this team win and make a big playoff push."
He sure did his part to keep that push alive in Sunday's 5-4win over the Bruins.
The Penguins found themselves in a 3-0 hole in the second period, until Egor Chinakhov gave them life with a power-play tally to get them on the board. Connor Dewar made it a one-goal game early in the third period, and Mantha tied the game 33 seconds later off a cross-ice feed from Tommy Novak.
The tie was short-lived -- Pavel Zacha scored just shy of two minutes later to regain the lead ... and so Mantha did it again, this time finishing a Parker Wotherspoon setup to make it a 4-4 game, setting the stage for Novak's game-winner 14 seconds into overtime.
"They all feel equally good," Mantha said with a smile of his goals. "We found a way in overtime to win it."
