The IIHF World Championship will be held May 15-31 in Zurich and Fribourg, Switzerland. Here's what different Penguins players said at locker room clean out day about their potential participation.
Sidney Crosby: "I haven't even had any discussions or anything like that."
Ryan Shea: "(The U.S. staff) talked to me. It's tough, because I actually experienced it four years ago when we went to Latvia during COVID. It was a great tournament and a great, great experience for me. I think those conversations will keep on going. Obviously, I want to make sure everything's intact with my body and all that with a big summer coming up, there's always that uncertainty, so we'll see what happens."
Rickard Rakell: "I'm just going to take some time to think, talk to my family, and just see where the body is at. It's been a long season with the injuries and Olympics and all that. So yeah, just going to have to take some time and think about it."
Erik Karlsson: "I don't think the World Championship will be an option for me, but not injury-related. It's been a long year. Going to take some time and get ready for next season again."
Elmer Soderblom: "Yeah, I don't know. We'll see what happens. Can answer right now."
Bryan Rust: "I haven't had too many thoughts about it yet. I think that's something that I'm going to have to think about. I don't know. I wouldn't think so."
Ben Kindel: "I haven't talked to Hockey Canada."
Arturs Silovs: "We'll see. I'm going to do an MRI on my knee and see how it goes."
