Bryan Rust was suspended three games for a hit to the head of Vancouver's Brock Boeser at the end of Sunday's Penguins-Canucks game.
The Department of Player Safety said that Rust "loads up for a high, hard check that misses Boeser's core" and made contact with Boeser's head in a play where the head contact was avoidable. The department said that factors went into the suspension were that the head was the main point of contact, and that Boeser was injured on the play.
Rust has zero history of fines or suspensions in his career, which was taken into consideration when deciding the punishment.
Rust will miss Thursday's game against the Blackhawks, Saturday's game against the Rangers, and Monday's game against the Senators, all at home. He'll be eligible to return next Tuesday against the Islanders in New York.
