Stuart Skinner returned to the Penguins’ crease on Thursday, still showing purple and green from the black eye he got when a puck struck him on the bench Saturday.
Skinner didn't see too much action in the 5-2 win over the Devils. The Penguins held the Devils to just 21 shots on goal. But Skinner did see his share of odd-man rushes and breakaways, and he did well to keep the Devils from capitalizing on too many of those breakdowns.
The Devils' first goal came on one such breakaway, with Paul Cotter finishing with a backhand shot on his chance in the second period. The latter goal was a deflection, with Jack Hughes' shot hitting Parker Wotherspoon on the way in.
"He was unbelievable," Dan Muse said of Skinner's game. "Playing against Jersey, their transition game, they work to get behind you. I feel like we probably could have taken away some of those chances. But at the same time, he was there when the breakdowns were there, where the guys were getting behind us. We would have rather avoided him seeing breakaways, two-on-ones as much as he did early in the game. But he was there for us."
