It seems like a week doesn't go by that doesn't feature someone from the Penguins' core -- Sidney Crosby, more often than not -- breaking some record, surpassing someone in some statistic or setting a new milestone. Two-plus decades of individual dominance will do that.
Crosby's secondary assist on Rickard Rakell's goal and primary assist to set up Anthony Mantha's goal in the Penguins' 4-3 loss to the Ducks adjusted the history books a little.
The assists brought Crosby to 1,065 over his career, surpassing Steve Yzerman (1,063) for the ninth-most in league history and third-most with a single franchise. The only players ahead of him on the latter list are Wayne Gretzky (1,086) and Ray Bourque (1,111). He'll almost surely surpass Gretzky this season, and would just barely pass Bourque this season if he racks up assists at a rate comparable to his last three seasons.
