• Playoffs.
• GOAL. Empty-netter. Karlsson. Three minutes till playoffs.
• Some pressure here from the Devils. The Penguins are kinda gassed, actually, from all the swarming they've done at the far end. Five minutes till playoffs.
• A loud 'Let's go Pens!' chant breaks out in here.
• GOAL. Geno from Sid. Of course. Other assist: Chinakhov for his third point. Time: 6:50, third period. Penguins, 4-2
• Very good save by Skinner on Sieganthaler. Not at all good defending by the Kindel line.
• Just a blah start here for both sides.
• Here comes the third.
• That's period. Shots are 23-16.
• GOAL. Hughes. From long range. Wrister. Assists: Siegenthaler, Brown. Time: 15:07, second period. Penguins, 3-2
• Cotter nearly had another breakaway, which is basically an automatic goal, except that Karlsson smoothly sticks it away from behind.
• GOAL. Chinakhov. Man, just nine ticks later. Sid wins the draw, and Wotherspoon springs for the backhand finish. Time: 11:52, second period. Penguins, 3-1
• GOAL. Novak. Aggressive approach of the New Jersey line, results in Geno setting up Novak point-blank. Other assist: Karlsson. Time: 11:43, second period. Penguins, 2-1
• GOAL. Even fourth-line wingers make breakaways look like a breeze against Pittsburgh goaltenders. Cotter's got nine goals all season, and he magically looked like Pavel Datsyuk on that one. Tie, 1-1
• Smart, hard one-timer off the right boards by Clifton. All the D-men have done this season.
• One guy's trying to start a 'Let's go Dev-ils!' chant in the upper deck off to the right. It ain't happening for him. He gets mad and goes silent.
• Disjointed start to the period for the visitors until a couple of quality chances for the Geno line. They're scoring tonight. Just watch.
• Second's underway. Business to finish.
• There's the horn. Shots are 12-10 for the Penguins. They really should've had a couple more goals to show for that, but it feels like that'll break.
• Brown has a partial break up the right side. Skinner stands tall.
• Kindel wiped out awkwardly in to the far boards, and he's slow back to the bench. After a few words with an athletic trainer, he slides back down to his usual spot.
• Mantha's off for a delay. He's insisting from the box that the puck skipped off the glass. He won't win this argument.
• GOAL. Rust's 29th. But what a feed from Chinakhov. My God. The entire building was sure he'd shoot, including Allen, only for him to distribute far right to Rust for a routine deposit. Letang did well to start it all from the right boards. Time: 4:53, first period. Penguins, 1-0
• Lousy first run through the lines. Really lousy. Shots are 5-0 for the team with no reason to be playing.
• Meier bursts free for a breakaway, beats Skinner ... but bangs it off the right pipe.
• Faceoff: Sid vs. Hischier, 7:08 p.m.
• Plenty of Pittsburgh fans inside and outside the arena, but the crowd as a whole looks like it'll be very light. Can't imagine why.
• Dan Muse's lines and pairings tonight:
Egor Chinakhov-Sidney Crosby-Bryan Rust Tommy Novak-Rickard Rakell-Evgeni Malkin Anthony Mantha-Ben Kindel-Justin Brazeau Elmer Soderblom-Noel Acciari-Avery Hayes
Parker Wotherspoon-Erik Karlsson Sam Girard-Kris Letang Ryan Shea-Connor Clifton
• Sheldon Keefe's lines and pairings tonight:
Timo Meier-Nico Hischier-Dawson Mercer Jesper Bratt-Jack Hughes-Connor Brown Lenni Hameenaho-Cody Glass-Nick Bjugstad Paul Cotter-Marc McLaughlin-Brian Halonen
Jonas Siegenthaler-Dougie Hamilton Dennis Cholowski-Johnathan Kovacevic Brenden Dillon-Simon Nemec
