The defense pairing of Kris Letang and Sam Girard were on the ice together for 17:39 during five-on-five play, allowing 29 shot attempts and just 11 shot attempts for. They did end up on the positive side of plus/minus being on the ice for one goal scored and none against.
It can take a few games for defensemen to gel as partners, so it isn't too early to pull the plug on the duo, especially since Ryan Shea hasn't worked well alongside Letang and others on the team don't necessarily fit in a top-four role.
As for Letang's assessment: "I thought it was pretty good. We had a lot of good chances, came out of the zone pretty well... just keep working on it."
