The Nailers opened the ECHL season tonight with a 5-3 win over the Cyclones in Cincinnati.
Goaltender Maxim Pavlenko, playing in his first game in North America, stopped 27 of 30 shots. Wheeling's goals came from Mike Posma, Cole Tymkin, Zach Urdahl, Matthew Quercia and Brayden Edwards. Tymkin had a Gordie Howe Hat trick, fighting in the first period and getting an assist on Quercia's goal.
NHL-contracted defense prospect Daniel Laatsch made his pro debut on the left side of the second pairing, and was a team-best plus-5 with two shots.
